I don't read uninteresting material and I don't need to because I only accept work in a few very narrow technical areas that I am really interested in.

For reading: I need a quiet place because interruptions really ruin my comprehension.

Also: I find reading other people's code to be almost as good as reading well written books. I've been doing this for about 30 years - a good habit, if you enjoy it.
