Ask HN: Do you only have one broadband provider?

I live in New York City - ostensibly one of the most advanced cities in the world. However, I can only get Internet access via Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable). There are no other options aside from DSL or paying for a physical Fiber haul to the building.
