Why? Doesn't the math stand on its own? Not accepting a sound proposal from a "nobody" is just as bad as accepting the NSA's because people think they're an authority on the matter. Isn't math supposed to be better than this?

The math needs explanation, explanation needs cooperation and coordination, cooperation and coordination breed familiarity, familiarity negates anonymity.
You simply can't be anonymous and trusted at the same time.
