I won't disagree for a second that Fornite took existing dancing and used them in their game. They absolutely did.

The legal side is interesting however, and you do have to wonder what society will look like if the dancers win. Are we going to wind up with copyright trolls but for different dance moves and styles? As the article says, previously only long or full acts could be protected, if Fornite loses, new short dances will be protected.

Fortnite isn't even the first to do this by a long shot too. All the classes in the original GuildWars had dances taken from pop culture, like the Elaine Little Kicks dance from Seinfeld. Dance emotes in most video games are not original works.

Maybe this will lead to our copyright laws being loosened to encourage more creativity instead of strengthening them for increased profit extraction.
