Code, software, (arguably) middleware (not an accepted word yet).. are all uncountable [0][1]. Code itself is a bit of an aberration though.. even as a noun representing a set of rules (which dictionaries list as countable) it can be uncounted - 'code of conduct', 'penal code', 'code of the Samurai'.

I really hope it doesn't become another literally [2].. despite Archer's efforts [3]
