Joan Didion is great, I would recommend Slouching Toward Bethlahem to anyone who isn't familiar with her yet. Her writing is precise and observant.
ok, a heads up.

If you read the book, skip the forward. It gives away a lot of details about the rest of the book. Nothing major, but there are a few notes that I wish I hadn't known ahead of time.

The forward is nice, but I think it is better to read after you've completed the collection.
