“Urine also makes a good soil fertilizer because of its high nitrogen content, said Lalander.”

Any suggestions on where to put urine to be used as fertilizer? I’ve read the term “nitre pit” and am guessing it’s pee plus dirt, with compost in a separate place so the ammonia doesn’t interfere with composting.

To separate poop and pee in general, we’ll have to change our habits: “Aiming is important, and men must sit. That may be fine for a committed person with a urine-diverting toilet in their home, but it's unrealistic to expect everyone to alter their behavior when using a public toilet, said Hill.”

Unless I’m outside, I’ve been sitting to pee since basic military training; cleaning piss-splash off the walls takes extra time and isn’t fun, so I and almost everyone else helped out with prevention.

Another category of toilets that require neither water input nor plumbing output are incinerator toilets such as the Incinolet and Cinderella[1].

Thought HN might dig the innovations happening in the space.
