I'll repeat what I said last time I commented on this - I read both stories and I thought Wellman had a crisper murder mystery. Faulkner's was well written but wasn't as satisfying. Wellman's story starred Watson and Holmes which probably helped too.
I do love Faulkner's rant though. So affronted!
He has a collection of mystery shorts based around an attorney Gavin Stevens who shows up in some of his other novels. I preferred a couple of others, but who knows how these things are decided.
