Removing the hardware rather than than just experimenting with software that doesn’t use radar seems quite a gamble, unless they already did those experiments.

But if they did the experiments, why do they also write ”All new Model S and Model X, as well as all vehicles built for markets outside of North America, will continue to be equipped with radar and will have radar-supported Autopilot functionality until we determine the appropriate time to transition those vehicles to Tesla Vision.”?

That doesn’t make me feel they are sure this will work.
