The last good Apple computer was the ][. The /// was crap, the Lisa was crap, the Mac was crap, the Mac 2 was crap, etc.
Apple should have taken the //gs seriously, wiped out the PC AT clones and choked off Microsoft Windows before 95. By then it was ][ late.
Keep Woz in charge, evolve the 6502 to 32 bit and 64 bit, that is where it’s at.
If only I had listened here and dumped my stock in 2012…
For sake of argument I have been restoring some 68k Macs I picked up at an estate sale. I was unaware that even back in 92 apple limited the hard drives you could use with the machines... And even when I emmulate Id data for whitelisted drives I still have to use a patched formatter to init/tattoo the drive and partition it.
Apple has been playing the proprietary game for some time.
Some of these issues are not unique to Apple, though they may have led the way. Now if you want repairable/maintainable hardware, you have to DIY or go to a boutique builder. I’ve just ordered a new keyboard, battery, and ssd for a seven year old laptop, just because I could.
Of course, I’m reading this right now on my iPad, so there’s that.
Aren’t AirPods a pretty revolutionary design on their own? The Apple Watch is not the toughest, but Apple is rumored to release an explorer edition soon, which should have a more protective casing.
