No, that's just marketing by Porsche. The car pre-dates Porsche the car brand by 33 years.
As I understand it, the SUVs and Cayman/Boxster each outsell the flagship as well. The base Taycan is a good bit cheaper than the cheapest 911, and significantly more practical due to having proper rear seats.
Exactly. Where I live a base Taycan is 115K, a base 911 is 195K, and the Taycan seats 4 in comfort. If they stuck a Taycan drivetrain into a 911 lookalike they'd never sell another 911.
