Does anyone else find this article written and headlined very awkwardly?
Forget the nytimes on that particular issue (and on many others). They miserably fail at reporting the corruption of the courts. Both judges (Kaplan[0] and Preska[1]) have ties to Chevron.
I encourage you to listen to the Chapo Trap House episodes where Dozinger is interviewed [2][3][4].

Are people seriously linking chapo trap house here? They're even banned on reddit for extremism.
What’s extreme about them? Does being outside the American Overton Window automatically make one an extremist?
I'm not an American but these delusional kids wave with Soviet Union flags, so someone who has lived and family members killed under the banner they very much are extremists.
No, they're not. The subreddit was, at the same time as the Trump subreddit, in a transparent attempt to do a bothsidesism and limit PR damage to . The cited extremist content were related to John Brown being justified, etc...
Generally the subreddit was to the left of Chapo, and there was a signficant amount of distance between the two, with the sub and the podcasters roasting each other every so often.
FWIW I originally learnt about Chapo Trap House on this website, a year and half ago or so. They're obviously a podcast so not as accurate as written publications, but as long as you take their bias into account they're not so bad.
To substanitate the podcast not being banned, check out r/blackwolffeed which discusses the podcast (unlike the eponymous subreddit), and you will see that it is in fact not banned from Reddit.
While the bad judgements are without question, it does seem like Donziger is very much guilty of engaging in an extortion racket of his own. Chevron's wrongdoings don't absolve his.
I strongly encourage people to avoid the rage-baiting and misinformation machine that is Chapo Trap House.
How has he been running an "extortion racket"? The only evidence to that is from someone that Chevron themselves bribed.
To all of the reading I've done on the subject the Chapo telling of the story is accurate. It's just some previously reputable sources that fail to mention that the only account or Donzigers wrong-doing is by someone paid 12 000$ a month by Chevron and reliant on Chevron's goodwill to say in the USA, that also recanted his account later. There is no credible evidence of extortion from Donziger, in account that portrays it as such is either misinformed or naive.

Isn't the best way to combat misinformation is with information? What are your sources?
Information is great. But even being gracious, CTH is a highly polemic source of entertainment. I would lump them with Breitbart or Joe Rogan or similar.
It doesn't change the fact that their account of the story is accurate and backed by credibly sources while yours so far isn't.

If they were equivalent to Breitbart in that they mention crucial information that the likes of the NYT and WaPo didn't, we'd be in big trouble.
This is pretty common treatment for criminal cases. The actual rulings are pretty complicated and they try real hard to connect the defendant to the thing you know him from.
This one doesn't seem very complicated to me. The US Attorney declined the case, so Chevron bought the court.
As for the tiptoeing of the NY Times, that would be because virtually every politician that Donziger might appeal to for intervention also either has worked for a law firm representing Chevron themselves, or has a family member working for a law firm representing Chevron.
Well he did go through due process in the courts. In some countries, including my own, going up against a juggernaut only gets you a bullet in the head- in broad daylight - and no one will see anything even if you were in the city square in the capital, a stones throw away from the city council.
I think the US courts can have the same effect as a bullet in the head, if you look at mental health outcomes. It just involves more steps that whitewash the process into something more tolerable by the rest society. Some people would prefer the bullet.
Why did his appeal fail? Shouldnt the trial judge have recused himself from this case?
This guy is a martyr and should be celebrated as such
