The article obsesses over whether the human brain can understand the human brain. But the brain is a structure with a vast flexibility. Even a basic sensory function in a basic insect has a developmental structure unique to each individual but has the same functionality. In other words, the brain uses environmental inputs to guide its growth. So to suggest the brain has this or that capacity is as much a cultural question as a biological one.
