It's interesting how the article keeps going back and forth from "leadership didn't know!" to "leadership was responsible for the cover up", while still not mentioning any initial local reporting [0], nor how the total death count from just this incident goes into the 200+.
I guess these next few years we gonna get a few of these hand-picked stories where US domestic media decide to actually investigate how truthful Pentagons claims, from many years ago, actually were.
Which will still not lead to any more scrutiny in the current day.
Case in point: At the time, the NYT reporting about the battle of Baghuz didn't mention coalition strikes or civilian casualties at all, but it made really sure to celebrate US-backed SDF forces as the goodest guys ever [1].
