>Hit by a U.S. labor crunch, Starbucks and other companies are expanding labor-saving technology like artificial intelligence, robotics and digital touch screens

Are we ready as a society for this ?

I want every boring job automated, but millions will be out of work.

Cashier-less has been around for a long time. While im not a fan of starbux or amazon, the article clearly states it will be staffed as normal (which I read as perpetually understaffed in the first place). Either way, even with the robotic fry cook they mention ... someone still has to build, maintain, and manage the device.
Staffed as normal for now. I can imagine a seatless Starbucks without bathrooms and only a single barista assisted by a coffee making Robot.

It'll be here by 2030

We have those already too ... at least around the west coast. There are plenty of drive-by coffee kiosks that only fit a single employee in the first place. These could never keep up with the foot traffic of a big city corner but I have seen them in lots of places off hwy 1 and 101. Still, if maximum employee occupancy is one then its going to be hard to understaff.
