The magic of IRC is that you are not always connected and there isn't any way to reliably keep a connection alive. The urge to always be online, always want to lookup history, is a kind of FOMO-paranoia. We've developed weak memory a species for some important reason. It's ok to forget things, it's ok to not attend everything, it's ok to have off-time. The important things will surface by themselves, there's no need to be digging, plus you have a lot of work to do already. So, in my view, IRC is more like the being in the park, flowing with the Tao. It is simple and it is good. Discord is like getting cocaine and going to a festival. It's fantastic, but exhausting.
