The totally unnecessary restrictions on the freedoms of people in Scotland/Wales/Northern Ireland look really egregious now. England basically did nothing and it was fine.
In many measures it did better than them too on per population stats. Despite higher population density
This is just BS, the civil service are still being told to work from home. This is to help out all those office owning, tory voting landlords in London who are concerned about their profits.
In what way is it BS?
The law that requires all people to work from home has gone. Employers can still, of course, require it. The civil service is one such employer.
I would not be surprised if office Landlords are lobbying Tories to push for office work.
Of all the corruption scandals recently, this would be the better of them.
Is it corruption? Lobbying is legal and it is obviously in office landlord's interest to have people working in offices.
The City got barely any quieter pre/post this 'mandate'. It was basically ignored anyway. Also it's just a rollback to plan A which was in place for months, plan B was only in force since mid-December.
The occupancy rates in London even now are awful. Drive past during a workday on a bypass and see empty office floors that were once all occupied.
Heck in West London the biggest office complex has 20-30% occupancy rates if that. The office at least as recent has been dead.
Oh yeah occupancy is not great, but a rollback to plan A will make little difference. Most firms are still operating an optional return to office policy and very few changed that as a result of the switch to plan B.

The title was not originally accurate. The changes apply only to England, not the UK or the "British".
Thank you. Fixed it.
