> The narrow strait between Denmark and Sweden remained calm

Both sides of the Øresund strait were Danish in 1438. Sweden won Scania in the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658.

I think Gilbert and Sullivan wrote a song about him...
Someone uses Firefox Pocket - this is one of the recommended articles there.
Perhaps it's on there because it has recently been circulating on the Net generally. Not necessarily this narratively version; I think I saw a YouTube video about him in my feed a week or three ago.
I can't help to be reminded, just by the title, of these two very Canadian songs:

King of Spain: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OF3JfiexLVA

The Last Saskatchewan Pirate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8G_L9tXEwmc

The first is a tale of the King of Spain who leaves his station to become a singer and to work at the pizza pizza.

The second is the story of a farmer, who after losing the farm, becomes a pirate on the Saskatchewan river. If you combine the two, and squint just right...

It’s a lot easier for a king to become a pirate than for a pirate to become a king
Both of those are firm entries in my playlist <3
