Zuck couldn't pay me enough to voluntarily enter his data-theft kingdom. I feel bad for all the folks who already have their privacy routinely violated on his platforms without their knowledge.
The killer app for the metaverse is "story." Come up with a world where you get to be part of a story. Specially one that can't be created in the real world. If someone can do that then people will spend their whole paycheck in there. Think of being part of something like Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings and you'll never want to get out.

Star Trek had it right with the holodeck. The idea was that the crew used the virtual world as a distraction not a place to live in.

Zuckerberg's big mistake was tying this project too closely to himself. Virtual reality MMO? Yes please. "Zuckerberg's Metaverse"? Wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. Maybe I'm out of touch, but it strikes me that even the most basic market research would uncover that most people feel the same way I do.
look, if you want to grift, go large. if he said he envisions 1m people spending cents, he'd be low, down in the bar room spitballing. But $100 per head over 1b users, thats some serious vig.

(I can assure you, neither I, nor my partner, nor anyone I know in my circle of geriatrics will be spending $100 in the metaverse)

As someone else mentioned on Reddit, they can't even afford food and gas with inflation right now. He is delusional and shows how tall the ivory tower he is living in. I really wished Instagram and Whatsapp were never acquired.. I would be totally off the Facebook platform.
