I know people do successfully take apart vehicles to the last nut and bolt and restore and reassemble, but seems like a lot more give up part way.
I've tried taking photos and bagging things, and it's not great because it doesn't preserve relative positions or angles that could be informational. Going back through the photos is a pain, and often I missed the right angle, or it was blurry.
Also, it's hard to think of things to write on the labels that will make sense later. Much like commenting code.
I feel like the best way to organize things is to arrange them on a large, light colored background, like an exploded diagram. But that takes up a lot of space, and can be easily disturbed and scrambled.
A thing I thought of that nobody suggested is to use a piece of string (or perhaps a zip tie) to tie bolts and washers together, to preserve the ordering.
There's something very satisfying about the images in the article though.
