For a humorous, animated video summary of the Pig War, check out the YouTube channel "Oversimplified": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLq6GEiHqR8&ab_channel=OverS...
Lived on SJI for 4 years, taught at the independent school there as a history teacher and taught the Pig War. One of the standouts if you're visiting is the contrast between English Camp:

and American Camp:

at opposite ends of the island. One is very exposed and windy and an extremely exposed place to set up camp, and the other is English Camp :)

Reminded me of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emu_War
A moment of silence for the brave veterans of that war.
There was also a so-called pig war in the Balkans about 1910, also bloodless--this one even for the pigs. The Austro-Hungarian Empire refused to allow the import of pigs from Serbia, which was I guess a large share of Serbia's export trade. This it intended to bring Serbia to a right way of thinking. The embargo only increased Serbia's resentment of the empire.
Reminds me of the Honey War (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honey_War), where some ambiguity in the cartography of waterways and a self-idolizing governor nearly led to the militias of neighboring states squaring off.
“ Despite being referred to as a "war" there were no casualties on either side, aside from the pig.”
San Juans are one of the most beautiful places on Earth
Visited the San Juan Islands this summer. Super beautiful up there. The Brits certainly had the better camp.
