Interesting but not actionable. E.g. here in Iowa there's no way in hell we'll choose the Canadian Goose as our 'state' bird. Let Canada keep that one for themselves.

We're on the flyway between Canada and wherever they migrate to. So its incidental the bird is more frequently observed here than other states.

We're very happy with the Goldfinch thank you. Yes, some call it the Eastern Goldfinch but we have plenty of them here too, and we just call them 'Goldfinch' here.
