This criticism could be applied to Discord (Nitro), Youtube (Premium), and Snapchat (Plus). Heck, even Tinder to some extent. Twitter isn't the first to do something like this.

I'm not sure how viable a source of income it will be but I have no doubt there are users who are willing to pay for it.
