I think this is sort of an overstated problem for SSDs. As part of some processing I was doing, I was moving hundreds of gigabytes daily on a very cheap consumer SSD for several months and ate like 20% of its lifetime doing so.

If your usage pattern is so aggressive that you're wearing out hard drives, you really should invest in an enterprise SSD. They're much better in almost every way. Much more consistent performance, generally longer lifetime, often bigger. They're more expensive for sure, it's still fairly affordable compared to many other computer components.

Now, for SD cards, that is another matter.
