How are they going to enforce it?
Selectively.
And as a tool to limit voices in their own political space.
You'll see the average person suffer, but it will be regional and class based.
Religion is great for this stuff. (not to be confused with faith)
How the heck are they going to enforce it?
From the article:
"Supporters of the new legislation say changes were made to accommodate concerns of critics - for prosecutions to start a complaint must be filed by the children, parents or spouse of the accused couple."
Probably with morality police, and encouraging people to rat on each other. I guess Indonesia wants to rival Iran for having one of the most repressive societies on the planet.
I think there are still enough other contenders (most of the Gulf states for example, Afghanistan, and non-Muslim examples such as North Korea...).
But it's sad to see that a country which used to be one of the poster children of a fairly liberal nation with a Muslim majority is regressing so badly.
I wish I understood better what's behind this surge in religious extremism (prominently, but not exclusively, in the Muslim world) in the last 10-20 years.
When it suits them. See: https://www.newsweek.com/world-cup-worker-threatened-100-las...
If, like me, you didn't see the word "marriage" (it was truncated in the subject), that becomes less of a challenge...
