Few observation / opinions from a parent who sent kids to a Russian math school in an area with “good public schools” and kids are now older (HS & college). YMMV.

The teachers by and large care about and enjoy math. That is good. It’s rare to see this in public schools in the US before high school.

Unless your kid loves math, don’t make them do it.

Kids under 6th grade don’t need to grind and do lots of homework. Aka chill.

Best sardonic joke - can’t wait until someone starts a Russian School of English.

Good. Tens of thousands of American kids waste 10 hours per week standing around "playing" baseball at games and practices, gaining nothing from the experience. Even if these kids don't medal at IMO, they will have valuable skills.
