I can't tell you the movie that's had the most impact on me, or the my favorite television show. But Samuel Delany has definitely stood the test of time as my favorite author, one who has influenced me the most, and who I continually return to.

I generally suggest "Time Considered as a Helix of Semi-Precious Stones" as an accessible entry point into his work. A less-than-legit copy is available online, and I'm comfortable pointing people towards it because I'm confident they'll pick up his work after exposure.

I went on a tour of seminal cyberpunk authors a while ago and if you like Delaney I also recommend John Shirley (City Come a Walkin') and Blood Music by Greg Bear if you haven't read them yet.
I always give people Nova with the warning that his other works are all wildly different.
