So here we have a robotic snake floating in mid-air capable of both changing its shape and manipulating objects with precision.
In other words, it looks like one of those special-purpose robots shown in the background of a Star Wars movie.
We live in interesting times.
I'm probably going to get downvoted for this comment, but I'm weirdly unimpressed with this work. I think it's because it seems largely gimmicky, and wouldn't have any/many benefits over a "fixed" drone with a manipulator/arm. And maybe I'm underestimating the complexity of the control laws, but it seems like it wouldn't be much more complicated than the usual LQR state space things.
