The actual article (vs the HN Title) only seems to say:

Their maps show quite a few states being in the path of the storms.

I think they are still conflating tornado warnings with watches and severe storm warnings. There were a few tornado warnings as the system move across the country but from what I have seen I don't think 30 million were affected, but I could be wrong on that since I did not bother to dig deep or anything. Point is, clickbait title with clickbait website.
True. But “.uk” and that right column on their web page? I put on my “realistic expectations” glasses before reading the subtitle.
The warnings covered a larger area, but it looks like most of the death and destruction happened in Mississippi.
