Agreed.

A 30 year old documentary, called Jurasic Park (1993), clearly shows that locking them up doesn't do a whole lot in terms of keeping the bad stuff contained and making the world a safer place. ;-)
A mission impossible indeed. As for bad stuff, the only plausible way forward is education and digital literacy. Alas, these seem to be downplayed by both governments (funding) and the public, which likes its own bad stuff and its own stupidity.
A mid range gaming pc can run any hugging face model at decent speed. I dont know how the lower spec macbooks perform but hardware capable of running models locally is definitely within reach. Would be cool tho to get gpus which support vram modules.
