all this "AI will kill / save us all" horseshit becomes tiring. Do the people writing these articles worry about other people's kids the same way? Have any of them read Frankenstein?

I thought of that too actually. Seems much more plausible that some kind of ultimate AGI that wanted to end humanity would just oversupply humans on what they ask of it, like overfeeding a pet until it is too obese to move, or somehow otherwise coddle us to extinction. Humanity would beg for more even as it gasps out its last breath.

That the AGI doomer scenarios all sound like a bad rehash of Terminator or the Forbin Project with murderbots and nukes flying everywhere really says something uncomplimentary about the people who are worried about them.
