I dislike many aspects of IP law, but in this specific instance I think corporates have leveraged access to systems which they knew were potentially in breach of IP law, to gain an advantage in other spaces (AI)

Now, when google did it for the library-scanning thing, I kinda liked the outcome, I felt it was in some sense a higher public good.

This one I think has less community upside. Authors deserve respect. Where is their moral rights, never mind their legislated ones? Dead authors? less care. Live authors, its ripping off people who wrote into a system of IP law.
