I have a GitHub Achievement/Badge/Flair/whatever they call it for supposedly having contributed to this and I haven't the faintest clue what I did.
If you click on the icon it should tell you.

Basically any contribution to a repository which got archived gets you the nod. Likewise for the Mars rover one.

Maybe it was in a since-deleted repository?

Hmmm possibly, seems odd that all mentions would be struck out but I can't say.

Maybe try messaging github support to ask?

Oh boy, they snagged on of the least useful repos of mine. So I apologize ahead of time for it being in that arctic vault for any people in the future. I didn't get to pick which one they selected.
Just imagine what could have been stored there instead.
Oh I know... It haunts me daily...
I hope it's deep enough or the photographic film it's on will become mouldy when the climate warms up again after the nuclear winter.
