Every idea that Tesla has put forward was conceived by Detroit , the Germans and the Japanese back in the 90s, they didn't execute on it because they realized that the overhaul required would be massive and the improvement in quality of life for the consumer to be negligible or even net negative.
Little did they know that EVs would become an ideology and a political goal more than a tool to improve the quality of life of the consumer who in the end is the person paying their hard earned money for the product.
There’s a line of thinking that says that, the more expensive it is for a company to do a recall, the harder they’ll work on preventing having to make one.
If so, you’ll see more recalls the cheaper they get to do, and the net improvement will be smaller or even a detriment.
I don’t know whether there’s data supporting that line of thinking, though.
