Silly question but, is it possible they’re thinking about this wrong? Rather than a gene being responsible for making people sign up for studies, what if people that sign up for studies are worried about genetic disease they know of in their family? Wouldn’t that show up as correlation?
Flying awfully close to the biodeterminism sun with this one, aren't they? I somehow thought such research was taboo in the current environment.
I'd guess they're trying to highlight a self selection bias in the current genetic database being built by vanity concerns rather than clinical.
