Ask HN: What is the best open source LLM that can be run on Google Colab?

It seems I have lost the track on the open source LLL space, with so many models coming out every week or so.

As I don't have access to a GPU, I want to tinker with the a LLM on Google Colab (free tier). I appreciate your recommendations on the best choice here. The focus is on text analysis and generation, ideally beyond English. But I'm not going to expect answers to philosophical or mathematical logic questions, for example.
