I feel like I've been installing these updates all the time lately. What's going on?

Of course I'm happy these do get fixed.

Just normal Apple security. When a zero day becomes public, it gets patched.
the curse of the defender: attackers just need one foothold into the system to defeat it.
"The zero-day (CVE-2023-42824) is caused by a weakness discovered in the XNU kernel that enables local attackers to escalate privileges on unpatched iPhones and iPads."

Do they mean local like LAN? These explanations are starting to look silly and suspiciously like a campaign to make people feel like their perfectly good hardware is obsolete.
