Ask HN: How do you design a logo for your app?

by LorenDB·2y ago·4 comments·view on hn ↗
I am working on an open source app that I want to distribute. I have no immediate plans to monetize (there may be a paid cloud sync eventually but right now it's just a hobby project that I want to put on the Play Store and maybe Flathub). The problem is, I suck at icon design. I'm a programmer, not an artist, and I don't relish the thought of making an icon myself. However, I'll need one if I want to put my app on the Google Play Store.

If you have built a FOSS app before, where did you get the icon for it? Did you make it yourself or did you find somebody to make it for you?

Long time ago I used https://en.99designs.de/logo-design (I think I paid $99). These days I'd probably try https://www.fiverr.com/ first. Lately I saw AI-generated logo services https://applogocreator.com/ or https://logorax.com/
See if any of these might work in your case https://dribbble.com/shots/19689206-38-Free-Logos.
Funny, I saw one of those used somewhere recently.
