No other art style in any medium has as many people with this kind of entitlement. Most working artists have to make things people actually like, but classical groups and classical music are propped up by wealthy donors. 90% of people who go to a classical show will never return to see another.

I like classical music but I also like Elvis, and I don’t think that every metro area in the US deserves to have a public radio station dedicated to Elvis. But as long as a small dedicated base of rich people pays for it, those radio waves will wash over us.
