I can only speak for the company I work for, but that's more or less exactly the mindset the C-suite has about AI. The CTO nerds out on it so wants to work on it for the sake of saying he works with AI (nothing inherently wrong with that mind you, I can respect a genuine nerd moment like that), and the CEO sees our competitors pushing out AI solutions (aka calling OpenAI's APIs) and demands we "do this AI thing everyone else is doing".

It's just a hypewave of people following eachother blindly without stopping to consider why we need an AI in the first place. We're not doing anything groundbreaking with it, in fact half the features we're shitting out with our AI experiments are things that have existed for a decade at this point, except we can now label it as an AI thing.
