Do you consider photographers artists? I really don't see why we should be gatekeeping the term either way

More like medicine - Science and an Art.
Ironically the photography community already went through this sort of discussion as the Art of the darkroom became the 'art' of photoshop
Though the scale is lessened due to the significant barrier of entry for high end photography (a few grand per body and per lens)
