The original plan was obviously a bad idea (for all the reasons the article points out, again, four years later). Now he's calling for preserving existing forests.

Maybe in another decade or two, he'll catch up with the consensus from a decade or two ago: Planting natives and encouraging native forests to spread is a clear win for biodiversity, and needs to happen, but won't make much of a dent in CO2.
