I know a lot of people have very mixed opinions about data these days, but it’s articles like this that really remind me of the value of data. We can debate the ethics of privacy all we want, but I don’t think it’s a valuable debate unless we compare it to the ethics of ignorance.
Is the argument that the ethics of pursuing knowledge to benefit the collective may outweigh the ethics of violating individual privacy?
More like: it’s just as (or more) unethical to remain ignorant as it is to violate privacy. But yea. That’s pretty much the argument.
