Indian courts should not be allowed to take down domains on a global scale.

> Interestingly, the High Court action was instigated by American companies including Netflix, Disney, and Warner Bros.

I'm not sure they are. Namecheap seemed to do this of their own violation, which is most disappointing.
Also relevant, Indian courts have pushed out some silly orders in the past against Domain Registrars - such as blocking them from registering any domain names with the word "amul" as a prefix or suffix without the Amul Coop's approval[0]. This is obviously impossible to enforce (thousands of registrars across the world, and the scammers using such domains will just pick a different registrar). The court's next decision, which might be relevant here, was to block registrars. Gandi has been blocked by various Indian ISPs for about a year[1,2].

Namecheap is probably wary of this outcome (being blocked by Indian ISPs) and losing legitimate business.

Seems like it is time for Tonga to ban Namecheap...
they weren't actually hosting the files were they?
No, they were just the domain registrar.
i'm talking about the domains that were banned.
What's a good alternative that is future proof from this BS?
From a deleted comment below, I've chosen porkbun and it's the cutest damn domain registar and I think i'm in love.
Porkbun, Gandi, Njalla (terrible customer support tho). Namecheap is leery.
