"Web bloat" is to navigate tomshardware site and to leave scared of dozens of annoying ads.
Luckily it still works in lynx etc. As I grow older, I notice that I get quite angry by many of these annoying ads and definitely pop-ups that scroll me up/down or limit my browsing. Not as angry as I get by OS X persistently popping up alerts to the fore-front of everything telling me things I do not care about at all. Who thought of that really has 0 feel of UX. But some ads are close. I am still waiting for browser-integrated micropayments for ad skipping. Show me a little screenshot preview and etc and let me pay a cent or 2 or whatever.
web bloat of this proportion is far from new... the most common is probably huge images... i.e.: a 10000x10000 pixel image displayed at 320x320
