It would have been less biased if they used an image generator to create the portraits rather than real people. That would make it easier to control for confounding factors since they can vary arbitrary parameters of the fake person to figure out the most important aspects.
Not surprised as all humans have biases.
So it was literally the job of ten grad students to do "hot or not" on VCs and entrepreneurs, but for science.
