I don't understand - it's chocolate. That's like saying "coffee has substitutes" and yet none of them are coffee.

What substitutes are you thinking of? A chocolate bar without chocolate is not a chocolate bar...

I meant substitutes for consumers. Coffee’s substitute is tea. Chocolate can be replaced with plenty of other types of desserts. Even if you look at Hershey’s offerings, they have plenty of options with a lower content of chocolate than chocolate bars and kisses.
I've tried _hard_ to replace coffee with tea, but it's not the same. I'd rather just not drink coffee.

"You want chocolate cake? Here's an apple pie instead!" ...nope, doesn't work.

That means it will taste less like chocolate :(

You don't tell someone who wants an apple "you can have an orange, or this applesauce that is only 10% apples" and expect them to be happy.

Not without chocolate, but less. It only needs to be enough to be legally called a chocolate bar.
