And Google bends those users over for ad revenue and tracking data. OpenAI is over here running a product that is an order of magnitude more expensive and expecting things to "come out in the wash" like it's a deal between (burgeoning) friends.

Maybe the training data they get is worth it. Or maybe they'll get enough conversions to their subscription tier to make it worth it
OpenAI isn't storing the requests, according to the announcements, so I presume they're not going to train on this data?
