Being from Louisiana we have so many interesting existential problems here.
The dead zone, Old River control structure, increasing hurricane sizes, barrier Island and coastal erosion, giant levee systems managed by corrupt/ incompetent bureaucrats, cancer alley.
And all that's just the environmentally related stuff and not the social stuff.
My theory is that all of this stuff makes it a terrible place to invest which keeps land developers from coming here so the culture is awesome.
It’s seems like the solution to corrupt and incompetent leadership is always more power and centralization of government, forgetting what the original problem was (bad leads in power).
Is there a word for solutions to problems that really are just doubling down on the root cause of the problem?
Disappointing that the article doesn’t show a trend in the dead zone over time. NOAA has a better write up and a forecast for this year. It’s gonna be bigger. Apparently there’s a task force in place already to reduce the size of the hypoxic zone by a factor of three by 2035.
