I guess the reality exists that the further automation of weaponry and drones might in fact reduce human casualties due to it just turning into robot wars.

If the robots destroy infrastructure and displace populations there will still be casualties. Civilian casualties through disease, starvation and other preventable deaths often outnumber military casualties.
